Ultrasounds

Pets and Ultrasounds

Ultrasound is a technique that provides vets with a non-invasive way of scanning your pet’s body system without surgery. An ultrasound machine is used for the diagnosis and treatment of pets by using high frequency sound waves. This is very similar to an ultrasound that is used to monitor a human pregnancy where a probe is placed against the body. From this sound waves are converted into an image that represents the insides of your pet, and this is displayed on a screen allowing your vets to gain a better understanding of what is going on in your pet’s body.

Common uses for an ultrasound include investigation of the liver, kidneys, intestines, gall bladder, bladder, uterus, and abdominal cavity.

Ultrasound is extremely important for accurate diagnosis, ruling out causes of certain diseases and doing so in a non-surgical method which is simpler and better for your pet. We have skilled professionals who are able to use this technology to find the best solutions to your pet’s condition.

Having an ultrasound is safe and has no known risks. However, sedation may be required depending on your pet’s temperament and whether they tend to be wiggly. Preparation for an ultrasound includes shaving the area where scanning will take place and application of a gel substance to enhance contact.

If you have further questions or concerns, consult your veterinarian and they will assist you.
